Beer of Thrones

tyrion-lannister-beer

After watching last night's Game of Thrones episode and not being able to sleep for fear of seeing everyone I know and love get their head chopped off, I awoke with two mental heart  beats- Game of Thrones and Beer. The Beer of Thrones?

When googled, I wasn't disappointed to find that there people on the planet who had exactly the same broken record thinking as Nitch.

In a collaboration between HBO and Brewery Ommegang from New York, four beers will be released to celebrate the families on Game of Thrones. Up first the Lannister Beer, a sunny blond and bitter evil brew deep from the bowls of Westeros.

Seize your destiny and the Iron Throne

“For the debut beer we started with something a bit lighter and less complex knowing that not all fans of the show are Belgian-style beer drinkers,” says Leinhart. “This beer is specifically a nod to Cersei Lannister, the mother of the current king.  She has very fair blonde hair, which suggested a pale color beer. She also has a certain sweetness on the outside, but on the inside she’s pure evil, so we used different malts to create a certain sweetness, but with a firm bitterness to give it a little bite.”

"Unlike previous efforts by brewers which were typically executed as ‘brewed under license' arrangements or straight forward product placement pushes, the collaboration between Ommegang and HBO is focused on developing unique beers that are named and crafted to directly tie into themes and nuances of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and the surrounding kingdoms, where the competition to sit on the Iron Throne is fierce and deadly."

Taste Test: Game Of Thrones beer

Expect to be consumed with the rages of the Beer of Thrones when confronted with this brew, BEWARE!
